Please Join us Friday, November 8, 2013 7-11PM for the opening reception of SEARCHING FOR LAND, a site specific installation featuring new works by Jenny Heishman (Seattle, WA) & Kitsum Cheng (Frankfurt, Germany). Jenny Heishman will be in attendance for the opening, as well as be present the following afternoon to speak about her work.

Jenny and Kitsum entered into a long distance correspondence that spanned several months with the aim to explore their respective studio practices and identify parcels of common ground. in the volleyed exchanges, constructed narratives and personal anecdotes drove their connection, and such engaged and earnest coactions are reflected in their latest works. interpreted through sculpture and video the project roots in a basic exploration… how do we see more similarities with those around us? Searching for Land is the reflection of one such coordinated search.

‘We did not come directly at each other. in our many correspondences, we have shared the same grounds and described to each other what is behind us, and what is facing us in our sculptural practice as well as everyday life. if we were two dots, immersed in the same thing, say a die, then we would be dots set on different planes. in this sense, we are a part of a number –a greater whole. This exhibition might map our shared tendencies - or rather our tendencies in trying to understand what drives us. Two dots seen at once in a three dimensional space: a parabola’
– Kitsum Cheng

Searching for Land marks the first Vancouver exhibition for both artists.
